Academic Instruction

Teaching experience

I’ve spent a decade teaching communication, design, and media in higher education.

Teaching is about equipping students with the skills to succeed.

I’ve taught courses at three universities ranging from public speaking to multimedia content creation. My teaching emphasizes applied learning—helping students build portfolios, master professional tools, and connect their work to the communication industry.

Applied, Industry-Based Projects

My teaching experience spans three institutions of higher education.

I’ve built classes around helping students gain practical skills and confidence. Whether teaching public speaking, design, or digital media, I emphasize creativity, clarity, and the ability to carry work from the classroom into professional practice.

Oaks Academic Teaching Award

At Washington State University, I received the Oaks Academic Technology Award, which celebrates excellence in using technology to support student learning. My work focused on weaving digital design, media production, and communication tools into courses so students could learn by doing.

The award was especially meaningful because it recognized my emphasis on preparing students for the real world. By incorporating technology that mirrors professional practice, I was able to give students experiences that bridged the classroom and the communication industry.

A student note

Thank you for being such a great professor. Over my years at three different colleges, (I’ve moved a lot), I can confidently say that you have been the most inspiring teacher I have had thus far. You bring a sense of humor, passion, joy, and excitement to your work, which has been rare in my experience!
Please continue to express your passion and share your light with your future students! It really brightened my (otherwise) seemingly disconnected semester and I hope to have another Professor who embodies similar traits in my final year of school.

A student note

I just wanted to say thank you for such a great class! You have been by far the best teacher I’ve worked with during my time at WSU. I really appreciated your positive and personalized feedback. I can tell you love what you do and are darn good at it, so thank you again!

Best wishes!

A student note

I just wanted to take a moment to express my gratitude to you for this class and the way you have structured it.  I have really learned a lot.  The way you provided video content on how to accomplish tasks in all the platforms we used I was able to try more techniques than I had in the past.  I actually ended up devoting more time to each project than what was in the course framework because I was enjoying exploring new things.  I have friends that I have recommended this class to, and friends that are educators that I have told how well this class took advantage of the online and digital resources that are out there.  I really appreciate the time, forethought, and enthusiasm you brought to this course.
P.S. I seriously did find fonts really entertaining to work with.  I didn’t believe you when you said that they were fun.  I was wrong.  😁
