Strategic planning

Strategic plans shouldn’t sit on a shelf- they should drive action, and that’s where I come in.

As a steward for the WSU system strategic plan, I built processes for planning and carried them through to execution and reporting.

I led strategic planning for the Washington State University system, working with the Board of Regents, executive leadership, and leaders across six campuses. My job wasn’t just to draft a plan and call it done—it was to make strategy actionable, visible, and part of the daily rhythm of the institution.

That meant developing planning processes and stakeholder engagement strategies, producing annual reports and campaigns, building websites and dashboards, and (sometimes) setting up displays around the state to engage with folks.

Over time, I found my sweet spot in execution: setting up processes and then following through, building dashboards and creating progress reports, and working with leaders across the system to also execute on their plans.

At WSU, I built planning systems and carried them through to execution.

The work ranged from designing frameworks and creating communication campaigns to building dashboards and onboarding campuses into a new reporting system. It was as much about collaboration and problem-solving as it was about processes.

Strategic Planning Processes

I developed and facilitated the systemwide process for WSU’s strategic plan, including timelines, flows, stakeholder engagement strategies, and even event planning. To keep the process accessible, I designed surveys, built websites, ran social media interactions, and created a traveling display that collected input in a fun, interactive way.

Execution & Reporting

When the Board of Regents asked for regular updates, I stood up a full reporting cycle—first in spreadsheets, then through AchieveIt, a strategic planning platform I researched, procured, and implemented. We expanded the model from 4 objectives to 12, each with strategies, progress dashboards, and reports delivered every two months to leadership and the Board. I also onboarded all six campuses and multiple colleges and units into this reporting structure.

Communication & Campaigns

I created annual progress reports, designed and printed strategic plan materials, and built a toolbox of communication resources for leaders across the system. I also led campaigns to bring the vision and mission to life, producing videos, social media ads, and historical storytelling projects that built buy-in and engagement.

Planning Support

Beyond the system plan, I worked with colleges and administrative units to guide their planning. I facilitated sessions, provided toolkits, and helped align their work with the larger system strategy. I also worked closely with the System Strategic Plan Coordinating Council, where I co-led the development of WSU’s Standards for Strategic Planning and Alignment.
